World Book Day 2021

This week, we will be celebrating book week with World Book Day on Thursday 4th March.

At Scarcliffe, we value reading highly and want to share this love of reading by spending time reading and encouraging a sharing of stories aloud for all to hear. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income.

Each day, a different member of staff is going to read a section of a book for all children to access. Expect lots of wonderful character voices and enthusiasm!

Also, look out for our “Masked Reader” videos where you can try to identify which member of staff is reading in a silly voice, with their face covered!

Finally, on Thursday we would like children to nominate their favourite book and make a creative video / poster / presentation / advert about it and why everyone else in the class should read it. This will be explained further by the teachers on the day, but you could start to get your ideas together now!

All the children in the class will see these nominations and then vote for their favourite entry the following day. The three entries with the most votes will lead to those books being bought for our school library… EXCITING!

Have a great week!

A virtual visit with Vashti Hardy

On Wednesday 3rd March 2021, Class 4 were incredibly fortunate to meet Vashti Hardy, the author of their class novel (Wildspark). Vashti led an inspiring and engaging session for the children and showed them how to create their own fantasy story worlds.

We hope to see Vashti again in the future!
